You can also take another approach by making this a forged item. Although, due to the amount it'd prolly take two slots (a slot for each increment of 4) however, they'd be able to have a much more powerful ability due to you have a high forging stat. Then, you could use this enchantment to give them life which makes them as strong as your limbs, easy to control, and giving them life would prevent forge destruction abilities from working on those.
